The Texas Rangers would have been 26 games out of 1st place in the AL East behind the Redsox and Bluejays. They also would have been 13 games out of 1st place in the AL Central. In either case they would have been left sitting at home during October. As it is though, the Rangers play out of the AL West and finished with just 86 wins, but good enough for a 6 game lead and their 4th consecutive divisional win. All that aside the Rangers still were facing a huge uphill climb if they wanted to play more than a week in the post-season.
Now after picking off the Redsox 3 games to 1 and the Twins 4 games to 1, the Rangers get a few days off before facing the winner of Pittsburgh and the New York Mets. The extra days off should allow the Rangers to get their staff all lined up and ready to play in their 2nd World Series since owner Shawn Dylla took over in 1979. The unlikely run will end one way or another once again as huge underdogs in a series.
